Mother’s Day, 2019

Monday, December 9, 2019: As I prepare to journey again to California, I share this video which contains Mom’s voice as well as the voice of Martine’s close friend from college days at the University of Alabama. On May 12, 2019, Mother’s Day, I flew between cities to visit two of my daughters. My Mom was with me in the form of an audio cassette tape that she made in 1990 and a longhand narrative telling her story of Martine. She mentioned the name of Martine’s friend, David Cameron. When I landed, I tracked down a David Cameron in Alabama. I dialed and left a message, unsure of whether I had found the right David. Within a few hours, I was listening to his voice for the first time. David, now my dear friend I call brother.

I am so very touched that David Cameron and his wife will join us this coming Sunday, December 15, for the scattering of Martine’s ashes in the San Francisco Bay. I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the way David is continuing to be a true friend to Martine and now to me in being present for this gathering. As the sky darkens over the San Francisco bay we will see the sunset Martine so loved and spoke of.
